Ongoing Sketchbook Journaling Workshops

I am passionate about sharing my love of sketchbook journaling and all the benefits anyone can find through the process of using color, line, words and observation and putting it all down on the page. I teach through the Teachers As Scholars Program which provides professional education to teachers in Massachusetts. I also teach workshops privately on zoom or in person which I post from time to time on my website and through my mailing list. Workshops cover various styles of sketchbooking, watercolor, pen and ink and collage techniques, and ways of incorporating sketchbooking into your daily life or your travels to help you remember, process, enjoy life as it happens minute by minute. You do not need to feel as if you are “artistic” to enjoy sketchbook journaling, but you will find that you learn more skills and tools to express what you see and feel through the exercises we do together. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for classes, please send me an email.

Illustrated Travel Journaling -

a one day online workshop $200
Sign up on a wait list to be notified of when this class will run.

Have you thought about a trip you have taken and wished you had recorded more details so that you could remember it better? Or maybe the photos you took don’t quite capture everything that you felt and experienced in a place? In this two-session online workshop, we will explore ways to take your photos from a recent trip and create a watercolor sketchbook with fun lettering, observations, and collage to then apply to future trips you might take. Using watercolor and any other media you would like to use – watercolor pencils, acrylics, stamps, stencils — we’ll do some drawing and painting exercises, and I will give demos and techniques for designing pages, using your watercolors to paint buildings and landscapes. I’ll also show examples of other travel sketchbooks to inspire ideas. You’ll need a set of basic watercolor brushes, a set of watercolors, and a journal with watercolor paper. No art background is needed, just a desire to play with color, line, and shape. When you register you will receive a detailed supply list with more options.

"Sketchbook Journaling: A Way to Learn, Remember, Express and Play" for Teachers as Scholars

Taught several sessions for teachers 2021 through the present

This was a refreshing shift (to be a student during the pandemic)! As a non-visual artist, the work was all new, exciting and a bunch of fun. The ton of ideas from Miranda made me think of applications that would have never occurred to me otherwise.
It was a blast!

We know that drawing and writing helps us to remember and process information. It is also a meaningful way to record ideas, feelings, people and places. Using a variety of watercolor techniques, pens, markers, and collage, we'll use our 2 half-days together to discover ways of sketching and journaling that can help bring meaning to our daily lives and discover new parts of our creativity. We will also explore ways of integrating visual learning with your students. Whether you consider yourself artistic or not, this is for everyone to discover ways of mark making and recording that can become a lifelong skill and one that can also help your students learn in new ways. We'll look at journals in a variety of styles and cover basic drawing, perspective, color mixing, page design, mixed media techniques, and enjoy artmaking this time around from the comfort of our own homes. You will need to purchase some basic supplies in a provided supply list.
